An activist and Director of the 1242 Initiative, Ladyann Oluwatosin Crown, has urged secondary school students to believe in themselves as a first step to achieving whatever goals they set out to accomplish in life.
Crown gave the advice today at Ogijo Community High School, Ogijo in Ogun state.
She took the students through a thought-provoking session on their Career Day.
The event was geared towards equipping the students with a new perspective on career choices, self-belief, and a mindset oriented towards positive personal growth.
Ladyann Crown opened her session by emphasizing the importance of self-belief. “Before you can pursue any career,” she said, “you must first believe in yourself. It all starts with you.” She encouraged the students to recognize that their potential is not confined by their immediate environment. She inspired them to look beyond what they know and to be motivated to solve real-world problems. Ladyann urged the students to choose careers that align with a purpose they feel passionate about rather than merely following trends or imitating others.
In discussing personal growth, Ladyann highlighted the importance of setting aside time for self-reflection. She advised the students to carve out time at least three times a week to review the decisions they are making, both now and for the future. By setting this habit, students can ensure they are on the right path and taking meaningful steps towards the lives they desire.
Crown also spoke about the importance of setting career goals. “When you set a career goal, commit to seeing it through,” she told the attentive audience. She particularly addressed the older students, encouraging those in SS1 and above to begin using the internet as a tool for personal and professional development. “The internet can be a place of distraction, but you have the power to use it for good,” she remarked. “Leverage it to acquire valuable skills that will prepare you for your chosen career path.”
