My desire is for disadvantaged Nigerians to access health benefits at affordable cost – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his desire is for all Nigerians, especially the disadvantaged ones to access benefits at affordable cost.

Commissioning the 120 bed Mother and Child hospital in Makurdi the capital of Benue state on Tuesday, president Buhari noted that the event was symbolic of his administration’s determination to ensure Nigerian’s health delivery system is improved to carter for greater majority.

Represented at the event by secretary to the government of the federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, the president commended the tireless efforts of the office of the Senior Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals for continuously ensuring the attainment of the goals as a focus strategy to address some development challenges.

“This event is a growing testimony to the global community that Nigeria is putting children in the heart of Sustainable Development Goals.”

“In Africa today, Nigeria is considered to be the highest in mortality rate despite reducing significantly from 254.93 deaths per thousand life birth.”

In his remark, Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom disclosed that between 2015 to 2017, Benue state government has paid N1.45 billion counterpart funds for SDGs projects in the state.

The governor who was represented at the event by his deputy, Engr Benson Abounu, assured of contentious support to federal government projects that would be of benefit to the Benue people.

He called on the federal government and development partners to assist in the alleviation of the plight of over 1.5 million IDPs in the state.

Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the president on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Adefulire said the Mother and Child hospital Makuri was fully equipped with state of the art facilities and charged Benue state government to put it to judicious use.
