Controversial journalist and daughter of the late former Oyo State Governor, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, Kemi Olunloyo, has publicly renounced her ties to the Olunloyo family following the death of her father on Sunday, April 6, 2025.
Taking to social media days after his passing, Kemi Olunloyo, reckoned as about the most visible daughter of the late governor, released a series of emotional posts and videos, stating categorically that she would not be mourning her father and would reject any condolences sent her way. She described her decision as a long-standing one rooted in deep family trauma and unresolved pain.
“I am NOT part of the Olunloyo family anymore,” she declared in one of her Facebook and Instagram posts on Wednesday, April 9. “I told you in 2024 that I would never return to Nigeria, even if my parents died,” Kemi Olunloyo said of her father.

Kemi Olunloyo alleged that her father, though revered publicly, was abusive and controlling within the family. “My father was two different people. He was one person to the world, and another to us. He tortured us emotionally and physically,” she said.
According to her, while the late governor presented her as his favourite child to outsiders, their private relationship was filled with manipulation and exploitation. She claimed he used her positive energy for his own benefit and caused irreparable damage to the family unit.
Kemi Olunloyo also made disturbing allegations about her father’s involvement in occult practices. “My father was heavily into ‘juju’. I called him out on his 80th birthday, and not long after, he claimed he wanted to be born again and went to Pastor Adeboye,” she added.
Despite the bitterness, Kemi revealed that she had forgiven her father but maintained her decision to stay disconnected from the family. “I have forgiven my Dad for everything he did, but the scars remain,” she wrote.
Kemi further blamed much of the family’s troubles on the arrival of her stepmother, Ronke Sonaike, now Aderonke Omololu Olunloyo, alleging that her relationship with Dr. Olunloyo tore the family apart. She claimed Ronke’s entry into the family marked the beginning of occult practices and accused her of attempting to poison her (Kemi’s) mother.
“My mother married an intellectual who became a polygamist. The way it happened destroyed our family,” she lamented.

She also recounted the loss of her brother, Tayo, who passed away in 2021. According to Kemi, Tayo’s life was ruined after sustaining brain damage from a car accident during the “Ali Must Go” student protests. “Tayo was paralyzed for 43 years. They killed his destiny. He would have been a great mathematician,” she said tearfully.
In her lengthy reflection, Kemi claimed that during her father’s final years after suffering a stroke in 2021, Ronke allegedly prevented other family members from accessing him. “Nobody had access to Daddy in his final days. Ronke blocked everyone out,” she claimed.
As reactions continue to pour in across social media, many have expressed both sympathy and shock at her decision to speak out so publicly.
