Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering an ecosystem that promotes innovation, responsible gaming, and digital entrepreneurship.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance at the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority’s 2nd Africa Gaming Expo (AGE) 2025, held on Tuesday in Victoria Island.
The theme: “Transforming Africa’s Gaming and Fintech Sector with Artificial Intelligence”.
The governor revealed that the government was actively working on policies and initiatives that would position the state as the leading hub for digital gaming, fintech solutions, and AI-driven creative enterprises in Africa.
According to him, through progressive regulations, strategic investments, and digital infrastructure, we aim to create an environment where game developers, fintech startups, content creators, and AI pioneers can collaborate and scale up their innovation globally.
Sanwo-Olu explained that the expo provided a vital platform for stakeholders, regulators, investors, and technology pioneers to engage in discussions on how AI can drive efficiency, security, and inclusivity across gaming, fintech, and entertainment.
He emphasised the importance of creating an environment that supports game developers, fintech startups, content creators, and AI pioneers in collaborating and scaling their innovations globally.
“Lagos is not just a commercial hub, but a thriving epicentre of Africa’s creative economy, where gaming, fintech, entertainment, and AI converge to create unprecedented economic opportunities,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the transformative power of AI in driving efficiency, security, and inclusivity across gaming, fintech, and entertainment.
The governor noted that the gaming industry had evolved beyond traditional entertainment, generating employment, fostering digital innovation and creating new revenue streams.
He noted that fintech had revolutionised financial transactions, expanding access to digital payments and financial inclusion across the continent.
In his address, Dr Charles Ekundayo, the Chief Executive Officer, Africa Gaming Expo Limited, said the purpose for the expo was to focus on transforming Africa’s gaming and fintech market with Artificial Intelligence (AI).
According to him, the expo aims to foster innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth within the gaming and financial technology sectors across the continent.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the high point of the event was the presentation of the Gaming Influencer Award to former Arsenal striker and ex-International Togolese footballer, Emmanuel Adebayor, for his influence in both local and international football.
