The Jigawa House of Assembly has commenced investigation into alleged misappropriation of N13 billion by the 27 local government areas of the State.
Speaker Idris Garba made this known to newsmen in Dutse on Wednesday in reaction to Local Government Auditor General’s report of 2008 to 2015 submitted to the House.
He explained that the investigation was in respect of alleged withdrawal of N13 billion by officials of the 27 councils in the last administration.
According to him, there are no corresponding entries of the withdrawn monies in the financial books of the local governments.
He said all payments were made to individuals on behalf of the local governments, adding that the transactions were conducted without the approval of the councils.
Garba added that the Auditor-General’s reports showed that payments lacked the requisite supporting documents to validate the submission made in the vouchers.
The speaker also said there was an instance where N900 million was withdrawn within three hours and no valid documents to justify such action.
He said the legislature had invited four former commissioners for local government and chieftaincy affairs and six council chairmen that served within the period under review for questioning.
According to him, any body indicted will be made to face the law.
