IGP asks officers to protect themselves against any attacks

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Friday charged the personnel of the force to protect themselves if anybody assaults them on the street.

The IGP spoke at Federal Capital Territory command in Abuja after assessment tour to boost the morale of officers who have abandoned the streets for the past five days.

Adamu also said that the #EndSARS were out to demoralise the personnel, adding that government and the Nigerian Police Force would soon roll out package for those who have lost their lives.

Police operatives have recently been subjects of attack by hoodlums that have hijacked the #EndSARS protest across the country.

Daily Trust reports that 22 police personnel were extra-judicially killed by some rampaging protesters and scores injured during the protests.

205 police stations and formations including other critical private and public infrastructure were also said to have been damaged by the protesters in various parts of the country.
