Ighalo, Musa nominated by Nigeria Pitch Awards

Super Eagles strikers, Odion Ighalo of Cangchum Yatai, Shanghai Shenhua in China, Ahmed Musa of Leicester City Football Club of England/Al-Nassr and Kano Pillars player, Junior Lokosa were among the players nominated by the Nigeria Pitch Awards for the 2018/19 edition of the awards ceremony.

The three players emerged from the pool of nominees submitted for award by the professional journalists who voted immensely for the awardees..in the Strikers of the Year 2018/19 category.

At a press briefing yesterday in Lagos, names the distinguished nominees were announced by the organisers of the event. According to the President of the Pitch Awards, Shina Philips, the venue and date of the event would be communicated later as there are plans to hold it in Lagos

In the Goalkeeper of the Year category, Ikechukwu Ezenwa of Enyimba Football Club, Theophilus Afelokhai and Francis Uzoho of Deportivo La Coruna emerged as top three nominees, as Leon Balogun of Brighton, William Troost-Ekong of Udinese and Kenneth Omeruo topped the list of defenders considering for awards.

Leicester City Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi of Arsenal and Oghenekaro Etebo of Strike City made up of Midfielder of the Year nominations. Others include Godwin Aguda of Enugu Rangers, Junior Lokosa and Mfom Udoh of Enyimba in the NPFL Most Valuable Player of the Year nominees.

The women’s league produced Anam Imo of Nasarawa Amazons, Evelyn Nwabuoku of Rivers Angels and Rasheedat Ajibade of FC Robo, while Asisat Oshoala of Dalian Quanjianu, Francisca Ordega of Athletico Madrid and Rasheedat Ajibade fight for Queen of the Pitch award.

Again, Ighalo, Musa and Ndidi are to battle for the King of the Pitch award, as Thomas Dennerby of Supr Falcons, Gbenga Ogunbote of nugu Rangers and Solomon Ogbeide of Lobi Stars jostle for the Coach of the Year award.
