Chief Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology says the Federal Government is resolute in its Eight-Point Agenda to creating a resilient, knowledge-driven economy that prioritises local solutions for local challenges.
The minister stated this at the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Grand Challenge Nigeria (GCNg) in Abuja on Wednesday.
“Today’s MoU signing represents a pivotal step in advancing innovation and addressing some of Nigeria’s most pressing needs.
“This partnership with GCNg aligns perfectly with President Bola Tinubu’s Eight-Point Agenda, reflecting our government’s unwavering commitment to driving meaningful change in critical areas,’’ Nnaji said.
According to him, these areas include economic growth, human capital development, and social welfare.
He said the collaboration with the GCNg underscored the ministry’s commitment to co-chairing the GCNg project, designating it as a national priority with the ministry’s mission.
The minister added that a dedicated budget line for the GCNg initiative was already established.
“Although the initial funding may be modest, we are actively working to secure a substantial allocation in subsequent budget.
“This will reinforce our commitment alongside the generous four-year kick-off funds provided by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,’’ he said.
According to him, their team is fully mobilised and prepared for the national launch of the GCNg project in Nov. 18, to be led by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Nnaji said the launch would be a landmark moment, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to harness science and innovation as drivers of economic transformation, improved infrastructure, and enhanced quality of life.
