Recall that the federal government had in October, warned that civil servants who are yet to be vaccinated against Covid-19 would not be allowed into public offices from December 1.
Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Covid-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, had announced this at a briefing in Abuja.
He said: “With effect from 1st December 2021, federal government employees shall be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination, or present a negative Covid-19 PCR test result done within 72 hours to gain access to their offices in all locations within Nigeria and our Missions.
“An appropriate service-wide advisory/circular will be issued to guide the process,” the SGF
Following the announcement, civil servants had rushed to different Covid-19 vaccination centres in Abuja to get vaccinated to beat the deadline.
However, the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria asked the Federal Government to extend the deadline till March next year.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC ) on Wednesday morning, announced the discovery of the first case of Omicron variant of Covid -19 in the country.
The NCDC said the variant was found among travelers from South Africa after the genomic sequencing of positive cases from a routine day two test conducted at the National Reference Laboratory (NRL), Abuja.
