Ahead of the promised cabinet shake-up, President Bola Tinubu has been advised to give the correct dose to wakening his administration by bringing in former governors Babatunde Fashola and Nasir El-Rufai into his government.
Fashola who was Tinubu’s successor as governor of Lagos State fell out ahead of the former’s second term bid in 2010. However, their relationship rebounded when Fashola while serving in the Muhammadu Buhari administration played a key role in the emergence of Tinubu as presidential candidate and governor.
Questioned during his ministerial screening in 2015, Fashola in referring to the altercation with Tinubu had replied that “may your loyalty not be tested.”
El-Rufai who had in the past also pledged his commitment to pulling down Tinubu as godfather of Lagos politics.
However, just like Fashola was pivotal and even rebelling against Buhari to push Tinubu as presidential candidate of the APC in 2022 and eventually winning the presidential election.
Noting that the two men were desperately needed to give the correct impetus to the Tinubu administration, a former journalist turned politician speaking on the campaign to inject the duo into the Tinubu government, said:
“Forgive Fashola, and El Rufai, and bring them on in the government. They will make a lot of difference. Nigeria built them and it’s time for the country to reap from her investments in them. Tinubu should forgive Fashola, and engage him meaningfully,” the former journalist who is also a passionate supporter of Tinubu said.
“He is the most capable person in Nigeria to hold the govt for him. He is organised, disciplined, focused, objective and with profound knowledge of Nigeria. He is your making. He can’t overshine you.
“Whatever achievements, are recorded will be attributed to you. He is the right person for the CoS position. I want the First Lady, Baba Bisi Akande, Chief Akinyelure, Oba of Lagos the Oni of Ife and all other well-meaning statesmen across Nigeria to beg the president to forgive Fashola and El Rufai and bring him in, commensurately.
“He should also consider the unequalled sacrifice and contributions of el-rufai and bring him. To start with it was President Tinubu who begged the former Kaduna State Governor to remain in politics.”
