Arsenal end Chelsea nightmare, win 3-0

Arsenal thumped London rival Chelsea 3-0 at the Emirates on Saturday, to record a major victory in the English Premier League and end past heartbreaking nightmares.

With 13 points in six matches, Arsenal now go third on the table, one point behind Tottenham Hotspur and five behind, leaders Manchester City.

The Gunners even made today’s victory more memorable for manager Arsene Wenger, who marks his 20th anniversary with the club this week.

Arsenal have had a poor record against Chelsea, winning just five of the last 29 meetings in all competitions. In the last five derbies Arsenal had failed to beat Chelsea and both team and manager were always taunted by Jose Mourinho when he was in charge at Stamford Bridge.

But on Saturday, the Gunners put all their past nightmares behind them as they outplayed Chelsea in many of the departments.

Though Chelsea had 51 per cent possession overall, Arsenal had more shots on target and the pressure they mounted on their opponents even showed in the nine corners won, to Chelsea’s one. The Gunners were able to penetrate Chelsea defence at will.

All the goals were scored in the first half, with Alexis Sanchez opening scoring on 11th minute.

Theo Walcott netted the second goal three minutes after, while the playmaker, Mesut Oezil scored in the 40th minute.
