Anti-Trump sentiments on social media could deny you U.S. entry, immigration attorney warns

A Nigerian-American attorney practicing Immigration and Criminal Law in the United States, Bami Adelayo, has advised Nigerians wishing to travel to America in the near future not to express negative sentiments against President Donald Trump while posting on social media.

Adelayo gave the advice on Sunday in a Twitter Chat hosted by The Lagos Times.

During the chat, which had as hashtag #USImmigrationUnderTrump, Adelayo (@adelayolaw), explained that having a valid U.S. visa is not a guarantee of entry, adding that having anti-Trump sentiments could get one denied of entry.

He explained that U.S. border agents are now allowed to get social media passwords to access electronic devices, adding that “failure to relinquish password to social media or platform will cause denial of entry into the US.”

“If you are an avid #Trump basher, delete all posts about him. Could get your entry denied into the US”. he tweeted during the chat.

He also noted that federal agents at border points have authority to flip through your phone, computer or any other electronic device you might have with you.

According to him, one mistake many Visa applicants make is to use the word ‘relocate’, while applying for non-immigrant visa.

“If you tell interviewing officer, I want to relocate and you are applying for non immigrant visa, will CERTAINLY get your application denied. Means you want to live in the US without proper docs.

“Don’t use the word relocation for temporary visa! You will be denied. Point is temporary visit.”
