Seventeen lecturers drawn from Nigerian tertiary institutions have departed for Morgan State University {MSU), Baltimore, Maryland, United States for postdoctoral studies.
MSU is the State of Maryland’s Preeminent Urban Public Research University, and is one of the leading institutions nationally in the number of applications received from African-American high school graduates.
The 17 scholars are the first beneficiaries of TETFund-Morgan State University agreement for training of lecturers who completed their PhD in STEM and non-STEM disciplines.
They are joining 19 PhD students who are already in their second-year study and are fully sponsored by TETFund. In Spring, the group will be joined by another set of 79 PhD students.
The scholars were nominated and further screened by an ad-hoc committee at TETFund for final placement at various Departments at MSU.
The Executive Director/CEO, Office of Global Partnerships-Africa, Prof. Ibikunle Tijani, had a pre-departure sensitistion meeting with the scholars in Abuja.
The programme is in furtherance to the initiatives of TETFund Executive Secretary, Prof. Elias Bogoro, and the Morgan State University president, Dr. David Wilson, which commenced in May 2020.
The Postdoctoral Fellowship is a year programme of engaging Fellows in research, mentoring, publication, and educational and cultural immersion at MSU.
