The House of Representatives has welcomed moves by the executive arm of government to set up a reconciliatory committee toward settling the rift between it and the legislature.
Rep. Jonathan Gbefwi (Nasarawa-PDP), the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, made this known while briefing newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.
Gbefwi said an improved relationship between the executive and legislative arms would ensure smooth running of affairs in the country.
“We welcome any committee and of course we are going to work with them as harmoniously as possible.
“I can tell you as a matter of fact that there is no strife between the legislature and the executive, especially the house and the presidency whatsoever.
“We are only fulfilling our roles and duties as apportioned by the Nigerian constitution.’’
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Wednesday set up a cabinet committee to find a solution to the crisis between the two arms of government.
This followed the Senate’s protest against the retention of Mr Ibrahim Magu as the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in spite of the lawmakers’ rejection of his nomination.
Again, some senators at plenary on Tuesday spoke against the consideration of a letter from the Presidency requesting legislative approval for the nomination of 27 Resident Electoral Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission.
They insisted that the process should be suspended pending the removal of Magu as acting EFCC chair.
